Blake Merwin and his wife Allison were married in college and have built a life that blends their passions: caring for their community through pastoral ministry and helping people create cherished life-long memories through great experiences on the water. Blake received his Master’s of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary in 2007, became ordained in the Evangelical Covenant Church in 2011, and has spent the last 18 years working at Harbor Covenant Church in Gig Harbor where he is currently serving as Associate Pastor of Local Outreach. Concurrently to Blake’s vocational calling, the couple had two children and started a company in 1999 selling outdoor gear on eBay. In 2004 they launched their fly fishing e-commerce business Wilderness Angler. The company was a huge success and the Merwins opened their brick and mortar store in 2009 with a brand new name: Gig Harbor Fly Shop.

Compassionate and hardworking, with a commitment to excellence, Blake and Allison have grown their shop from its humble beginnings into a flourishing, multi-faceted business that offers equipment, experiences, and education. Gig Harbor Fly Shop sells fly fishing tackle, fly tying kits, waders, boots, nets, clothing, and apparel. Paddleboards and kayaks are available to rent or buy. At the shop you can sign up for guided fishing trips in regional freshwater lakes, rivers, and saltwater as well as guided non-fishing eco tours in Puget Sound. For the international traveler, Gig Harbor Fly Shop hosts fly fishing trips to Cuba, Christmas Island, Belize, Mexico, and other exotic destinations. The Merwins and their team aim to help every customer no matter their skill level by offering education programs that include online classes and in-person clinics, such as Intro to Fly Fishing, Fly Tying, Casting, Spey Casting, and much more.

Gig Harbor Fly Shop helps customers of every ability to connect with and respect our beautiful planet and its natural resources while unplugging from the hurry of life and creating indelible memories. The Merwins raise money for conservation work and donate to the Wild Steelhead Coalition and Coastal Cutthroat Coalition.
