Read on to hear about how Wet Coast Brewing Company got started here in the harbor.
Wet Coast Brewing Company is a local, small-batch brewery dedicated to the belief that folks are entitled to their favorite ale after a hard day’s work, a mantra that goes back to Prohibition days. Founders Bryan and Molly Copeland and Aaron and April Johnson created a brand that is deeply rooted in the history of Washington State during Prohibition. During the 1920s and early 1930s, you were either “dry”—against the production and consumption of alcohol—or you were “wet”—believing in the right to grab a pint and blow the foam off some suds, no matter what the law said. With a rebellious underbelly that smuggled alcohol from Canada to satiate the thirst of its citizens, Washington acquired the nickname, “The Wet Coast.” Wet Coast Brewing Company is the Copelands’ and Johnsons’ way of reclaiming that piece of Washington’s past. You will find most of their beers are named after an aspect of Prohibition: Brass Rail Pale Ale, Moving Day IPA, and Sneak Thief Milk Stout, to name a popular few.
Not only does it raise a pint to the State’s past, Wet Coast Brewing Company also takes part in Washington’s beer community of today, believing that the craft beer industry is bigger than just one brewery, and that one of the best ways to grow the culture is to cultivate it from within. Wet Coast also supports the people of Gig Harbor by frequently opening its doors to nonprofits for fundraising events and has partnered with Communities in Schools of Peninsula over the past few years. With a rich history, a heart for community, and a beer for every palate, Wet Coast Brewing Company is the ideal spot for a pint of award-winning craft beer and good times.
