Canterwood is a community that was built over the past 40 years around a gorgeous 18-hole golf course and minutes from the historic Gig Harbor waterfront. With 780 unique homes, it is one of only two gated neighborhoods with 24-hour security in the state of Washington. As one of Gig Harbor’s premier neighborhoods, here are some of the reasons from our 12-year-old guest writers that people love living in this community.

My family and I moved to Canterwood five years ago from California. Although I miss the sun, I don’t want to move back any time soon. I am glad to live in Canterwood, Gig Harbor (especially during quarantine.)
It’s Great for Your Furry Friends
Most of Canterwood’s community loves your dogs! There are great spots for walking your dog. You can walk down to the neighborhood’s park and let them chase a ball around. Many of the backyards are fenced so they don’t get loose.
It’s Great for Kids
Because of the gated community, your kids can bike to their friend’s houses or meet up at a chosen spot and bike around the neighborhood together! The park is also a great place to go play. There is a tennis court, half basketball court, and (of course) the playground!
It’s Great For Golfers
Although I am not into golf, I think the golf course is a great addition to this neighborhood! There are many paths that lead to the golf course around Canterwood. There even is a golf shop!
Home to Easy Dinners
If you are looking for a quick stop to pick up some food or a fine dining experience, the Canterwood Country Club has both! That’s right - there is a restaurant in Canterwood! You can easily drive and get some pretty decent food that is only five minutes away!
Super Close to Stores
If you need to get an ingredient for your recipe or your basketball went flat, Canterwood is super close to lots of stores, such as Big Five, Target, Albertsons, and many more!
It’s a Beautiful Neighborhood!
Another reason to live in Canterwood is that it’s just plain beautiful! There are lots of trees and most of the houses are built well and look nice. People do their part by mowing their lawns and trimming their bushes to keep their yards charming.

It’s easy to get to know people because everyone is nice and fun.
The golf course, pool, tennis courts, and Country Club are really fun places to be.
There are some really cool and beautiful trails.
The park is great because of the fun play structure, and its central location makes it a great place to meet up with friends.
The neighborhood is a great place to walk and ride bikes.
It’s a really pretty place because of all the beautiful homes and tall trees.
No matter where you go to school, you will always have a classmate that lives in the neighborhood.
It’s close to Target. My mom lets me walk there with my brothers and friends.
Our street is fun. We are good friends with a couple of our neighbors and have had block parties with the neighbors on the whole street.
The neighborhood feels safe and well-protected with gates and security guards.
