Harbor WildWatch

Let Gig Harbor’s top real estate agent, Paige Schulte, walk you through town and introduce you to the small business owners of Gig Harbor. Gig Harbor boasts a vibrant downtown scene lined with local business owners along with delicious eats from Uptown to Downtown Gig Harbor. Read on to hear about how Harbor WildWatch got started here in the harbor.

The mission of Harbor WildWatch is to inspire stewardship for Puget Sound and the greater Salish Sea by providing equitable learning opportunities about the environment to the local community and beyond. It is a mission that delivers over 600 education programs to more than 30,000 people throughout our region each year. Harbor WildWatch was founded in 2004, but it took another decade before it opened its first public office space in the revitalized Skansie Brothers House, now the Skansie Visitor & Interpretive Center. Harbor WildWatch has four full-time employees and over 65 volunteers annually. Their fun and interactive public programs aim to get people of all ages excited about the plants and animals that inhabit Puget Sound and teach them how they can play an integral role in protecting the local marine environment.

Some of these programs include guided beach, estuary, and wetland tours, Pier Into the Night, Community Science Training, Cocktails and Fishtales, and exhibits at the Skansie Visitor & Interpretive Center. Youth programs include classroom STEM workshops, field courses, junior naturalist training, and high school and college internships. Most of the programs at Harbor WildWatch are free of charge, but they also award scholarships to low-income students ensuring that everyone is able to participate.

Harbor WildWatch wants you to feel informed, excited, and hopeful for the future while teaching you how to take an active role in our local community. They are affiliated with the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce, Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance, Gig Harbor Super Business Group, and KGI Watershed Council. They collaborate with local businesses to give employees meaningful volunteer opportunities. Harbor WildWatch also knows that people do business with companies who support their community, so they offer extra marketing exposure through their Corporate Partner Program.
