Heritage Distilling Company

Let Gig Harbor’s top real estate agent, Paige Schulte, walk you through town and introduce you to the small business owners of Gig Harbor. Gig Harbor boasts a vibrant downtown scene lined with local business owners along with delicious eats from Uptown to Downtown Gig Harbor. Read on to hear about how Heritage Distilling Company got started here in the harbor.

Heritage Distilling Company is the first legal distillery in South Puget Sound since Prohibition and has been the most awarded craft distillery in North America by the American Distilling Institute the last six years running. HDC distills vodkas, gins, and whiskies. Their most popular product, BSB—Brown Sugar Bourbon—has won several awards, including “World’s Best Flavoured Whisky” from the World Whiskies Awards in 2018 and 2019. This is a significant achievement for a company that opened its first distillery here in Gig Harbor in November 2012.

Co-owners Justin and Jennifer Stiefel set a clear vision for their company: redefining the spirits industry. HDC celebrates the heritage of our community by creating spirits with a Pacific Northwest twist. They treat their patrons to visually intoxicating experiences and innovative programs like Cask Club. With a Cask Club annual membership, participants can choose vodkas, gins, or whiskies to custom age in their own 10-liter barrel housed at one of the distilleries. Since launching their Gig Harbor Flagship location, Heritage Distilling Company has opened another distillery in Gig Harbor, three more in Washington (Capitol Hill, Ballard, and Roslyn), and one in Eugene, Oregon.

The Stiefels aspire to treat all of their customers like family and are committed to supporting their community. Since Heritage Distilling Company opened, they have donated to more than 1,200 nonprofit and charitable organizations. They are partners or official sponsors of several Washington and Oregon sports teams including the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Sounders, and Portland Trail Blazers. HDC’s philanthropic efforts have been rewarded with the Secretary of State’s “Corporations for Community” award in 2015 and “Manufacturer of the Year” award from the Association of Washington Businesses in 2017.
