Locust Cider - Gig Harbor, WA

Let Gig Harbor’s top real estate agent, Paige Schulte, walk you through town and introduce you to the small business owners of Gig Harbor. Gig Harbor boasts a vibrant downtown scene lined with local business owners along with delicious eats from Uptown to Downtown Gig Harbor. Read on to hear about how Locust Cider got started here in the harbor.

Jason Spears is a husband, father of two, and a jack of all trades. He is a mechanical engineer who started his first business in his early twenties, a coffee house that grew to include a concert venue and promotion company. From there he went into restaurant design and consulting, which brought him to Seattle where an allergy to hops led him to learn all about hard cider. Jason developed a deep respect for the craft of small-batch hard cider making, high-volume manufacturing, and building community around something as simple as a drink. He started his new venture Locust Cider in March 2015.

Locust Cider, which opened their Gig Harbor production cidery in June 2021, is Gig Harbor's only cider company. Plans are well underway to extend the cidery into a taproom, an experimental orchard to test apple varieties, a garden to grow their own mint for their Mojito Cider, and a year-round heated and covered outdoor seating area to serve food and drinks and host events. Locust Cider makes creative hard cider, hard tea, and wine from Washington-grown fruit and boasts taprooms across three different states that also sell beer, craft sodas, and locally curated menus. Come in, grab a flight, and you’ll be sure to find a cider you like, whether it is exotic Vanilla Bean, adventurous Mojito, or the traditional crisp perfection of Cold Pressed Apple.

Jason and Rebecca Spears’ daughter Lucy lives with hydrocephalus, an incurable brain condition in which fluid builds in the brain and can only be treated with brain surgery. A portion of Locust Cider proceeds are donated to the Hydrocephalus Association to help support and improve the lives of children like Lucy.
