Neighborhoods In Gig Harbor - North Creek
Table of contents:
The North Creek area of Gig Harbor is a well-established community located just up Rosedale Street NW from (and within walking distance of) downtown Gig Harbor. It has five neighborhoods with roughly 175 total homes and is one of my favorite communities in Gig Harbor because of its larger parcels, its proximity to everything Gig Harbor offers, and, of course, its people.
This community is centrally located between the Gig Harbor North, Uptown, and downtown retail areas, making it ideal for those who don’t love to spend a lot of time in the car. No matter where you need to go shopping in Gig Harbor, the distance is four miles or less. It is also within walking distance of Discovery Elementary School, Pioneer Elementary School, Gig Harbor High School, and Henderson Bay High School. In fact, depending on where in the community you live, it may actually be further to the nearest school bus stop on the corner of Skansie Avenue and North Creek Lane than it is to walk to the school.
The primary entrance to the community is via North Creek Lane off of Skansie Avenue. All of the neighborhoods are within city boundaries which means they are on the City of Gig Harbor sewer and water. The homes were all built within the last 30 years, with the most recent neighborhood built in 2018.
North Creek Estates
In 1990 the first neighborhood in the community was established, North Creek Estates. Here you’ll find nearly 50 generous parcels of ¼ to ⅓ acre with homes ranging from roughly 2,000 to 3,000 square feet. It is comprised of a series of cul-de-sacs off of two main streets, with each of the streets having “creek” in its name (e.g. Deer Creek Lane, Elk Creek Lane). The landscaping is mature and many of the original trees are still there. It is the neighborhood with the most park-like feel and is the only one without sidewalks, although the streets are wide and easily walkable.
The Heights
The second most established neighborhood in the community is The Heights. The 42 three- to four-bedroom homes here were built in the mid-90s and beyond and are all on at least ¼-acre lots. With Rosedale Avenue on the north side, many kids walk through the neighborhood to easily access Gig Harbor High School and Discovery Elementary School. High school students will sometimes use the neighborhood’s main street to drive to and from school, but the tabletop speed bumps found only in this neighborhood help prevent any speeding that may occur as kids rush to class.
Newport
Just behind The Heights is Newport, a small neighborhood of 15 homes built in the late 90s and early 2000s. The neighborhood is made up of just one dead-end street, 52nd Place, and is towards the back of the North Creek community, making it a very private and quiet place to live. Nearly every lot in the neighborhood is about ¼ acre and the three- to four-bedroom homes generally range from 2,000 to 2,500 square feet.
The Estates At Gig Harbor
At the back of the North Creek community is The Estates at Gig Harbor. There are roughly 50 homes built between 2004 and 2005 with generous lot sizes ranging from ⅓ to just shy of a full acre. Homes in this neighborhood are also on the larger side, offering 3,000 to nearly 5,000 square feet and four to five bedrooms. The west side of the neighborhood abuts a wetland preserve which is home to a small creek that leads into Wollochet Creek to the south. The main street in the neighborhood, North Creek Loop, is one giant trapezoid-shaped loop with three cul-de-sacs stemming off of it. Legend has it that the cul-de-sacs, Darby Court, Debbie Court, and Dylan Court, were named after the road developer’s three children.
The Estates
The newest development, The Estates, is tucked off to the side of the Estates at Gig Harbor entrance but is an entirely separate neighborhood. It was built in 2018 by Rush Residential and has its own CC&Rs and HOA. The 19-home neighborhood is densely built with most homes on roughly .1 to .15 acres. Living in The Estates is an excellent opportunity for those wanting an established community but with a newer home and minimal yard maintenance.
If you are looking for an established neighborhood with large lots and within a quick jaunt to the major Gig Harbor retail districts, North Creek might be for you. Just know that homes in this community generally do not come on the market often, and when one does it usually sells very quickly if it is priced right. To successfully position yourself to buy a house here, make sure you have a great realtor on your side who knows the market well and will work hard to secure your dream home.
