Neighborhoods In Gig Harbor - Reid Drive

Written by Falynn Auston

Coming into Gig Harbor from the east, if you take the first exit off the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and bear to the right, you will find yourself in one of the most convenient parts of town, where 14th Avenue NW runs parallel to Highway 16 and turns into Reid Drive. There are a variety of communities in this area consisting of multiple small 10-15 home cul-de-sacs and a mix of small to medium neighborhoods such as Southport, Cushman Pointe, Point Evans Estates, Long Acres, Westbridge Estates, Hidden Glen, and Parkview Point. The communities on the east side of the street and the homes on the east side of the neighborhood have breathtaking views of the Colvos Passage, Tacoma Narrows, and Point Defiance.

The communities off of Reid Drive are centrally located just minutes from Highway 16 and the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and are not far from Uptown Gig Harbor which offers shopping, a movie theater, and restaurants. It is also only a few minutes to downtown where you can enjoy walks along the harbor, waterfront dining, and all the shops and boutiques. Living in this area is very convenient when dealing with rush hour, as you miss the majority of Gig Harbor traffic by getting off the highway before the congestion starts near the Olympic Drive exit. Schools that service the area are Harbor Heights Elementary School, Goodman Middle School, and Gig Harbor High School.

Let’s take a look at a few of these neighborhoods.

Southport

Established in 1999, Southport is a beautifully maintained gated community that consists of 97 homes. The neighborhood has larger lots around 16,000 square feet, sidewalks, and a park that includes a playground, a community barbecue area, and courts for basketball, pickleball, and tennis. Want to jump on the Cushman Trail without having to walk on the main road? Southport also has private gated access to the trial. Known for its community gatherings, the HOA sponsors fun activities such as a Fourth of July parade, ice cream socials, Santa visits, movie nights, and more. It’s common to run into your fellow dog lovers walking their four-legged friends enjoying a stroll around the neighborhood (doggie bags are even provided!). Maintenance for the road, trail, gate, and community park is also covered by the HOA.

Cushman Pointe

Newer construction and modern design is offered in this coveted gated community that is close to town and connected to city sewer. Built in 2020 by Rush Construction, Cushman Pointe consists of 51 beautifully built Craftsman homes on roughly 8,000 square-foot lots. They are known for their quality construction and designer finishes, bringing you a stunning show-stopper of a home. Cushman Pointe features sidewalks, a great community park for the kids, and private access to the Cushman Trail. Pro Tip: watch out for their high water bills. The homes at the back of the community have freeway road noise, but you are close to freeway access.

Parkview Point & Point Evans Estates

If you are looking for a well-established neighborhood without an HOA, this is the place. The communities of Parkview Point and Point Evans Estates are connected by roads that run along the Colvos Passage and provide sweeping views of Point Defiance and the Tacoma Narrows. There is a mix of homes built in the early 1980s through the early 2000s with lot sizes ranging from 12,000 square feet to 18,000 square feet. All the homes are on septic systems and the house sizes range from 1,500 square feet to 3,800 square feet. The larger and newer homes are on the Colvos Passage side and offer the most amazing views. Both communities have walking trails throughout, and just a short trek down 14th Avenue NW takes you to one of the heads of the Cushman Trail.

Grande Bank

Grande Bank is a small gated community with 30 beautiful Craftsman-style homes built in the mid 1990s and ranging from 2,000 to 3,500 square feet in size. Lots are around 18,000 square feet, have septic systems, and homes at the far end of the neighborhood offer views of the Colvos Passage. Enjoy the spring blooms of the beautiful cherry tree canopy at the entrance gate area, park-like landscaped community lots, and the notoriously meticulous HOA. The Grande Bank neighborhood knows how to have a good time with their annual holiday progressive dinner and end-of-summer barbecue.
