Dylan Stanley grew up in Tacoma, spending his high school years playing in punk rock bands and skateboarding. He moved to California to study literature at UC Santa Cruz where he developed a love for racing and riding road bikes in the Santa Cruz mountains. Driven by the desire to be back near family, Dylan returned to Washington where he opened Old Town Bicycle in Gig Harbor in 1995. During the course of the next fifteen years, Dylan got married, had two daughters, and made a name for himself developing and expanding his business. As Dylan approached 40, he began to consider a new road. It was at this moment that his father Peter Stanley asked for help at Tides Tavern. The timing was perfect.

Tides Tavern is a defining landmark along the downtown Gig Harbor waterfront. Originally built in the early 1900s by Axel Uddenberg, the building had its share of colorful history by the time Peter Stanley bought it, bringing it back from a state of disrepair and opening the Tides Tavern in 1973. Dylan’s childhood and youth were intertwined with his father’s work at the Tides, and though he spent years thinking he would never work there, he came to realize that it ran in his blood. Dylan became the CEO in 2012 and later fully purchased the restaurant from his father in 2018.

In the 50 years that the Tides Tavern has belonged to the Stanleys it has become a locally beloved institution and a nationally recognized bar open to customers 21 years and older. The menu offers a mouth-watering selection of appetizers, signature salads and sandwiches, seasonal specials, and crowd-pleasing staples like their widely acclaimed fish & chips and award-winning clam chowder. With its rustic interior, ideal deck seating, and picturesque views, the Tides Tavern is a place where friends meet friends, customers feel at home, and stories are made.

Tides Tavern donates to hundreds of charitable causes every year and is actively involved in Gig Harbor’s many local events.
