Invitation Bookshop - Gig Harbor, WA
Let Gig Harbor’s top real estate agent, Paige Schulte, walk you through town and introduce you to the small business owners of Gig Harbor. Gig Harbor boasts a vibrant downtown scene lined with local business owners along with delicious eats from Uptown to Downtown Gig Harbor. Read on to hear about how Invitation Bookshop got started here in the harbor.
Allyson and Jason Howard wanted to exemplify to their four sons what it looks like to live a life of purpose while making an impactful contribution to community. So when Allyson decided to change careers by opening a bookshop after almost 20 years in education, she and Jason knew that the values of their business would center around upholding the dignity of all people and representing a broad variety of voices from their community and the world. Inspired by Shel Silverstein’s poem called “Invitation” that beckons all kinds of dreamers and wishers to “Come in! Come in!”, the Howards christened their store Invitation Bookshop and opened September 4, 2020.
The Howards have thoughtfully curated Invitation Bookshop’s wide variety of titles to the specific interests of our Gig Harbor community while also providing opportunities for readers to make new discoveries. Invitation Bookshop is the only store in Gig Harbor dedicated to carrying new books. You can also browse a diverse selection of puzzles, literary games, stationery, and book-related merchandise. Come in, come in and be inspired by the vast world of ideas found among book pages and linger in the stacks surrounded by all the creative, magical energy that exists only in bookstores.
Jason and Allyson take pride in partnering and networking with authors and other small business owners in our region. They are active in the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce, work with book clubs hosted by local small businesses, and seek opportunities to endorse schools and literacy initiatives in Gig Harbor, including being a sponsor of the Write in the Harbor conference through TCC. The Howards donate a portion of their proceeds from Small Business Saturday to various local nonprofits.
